You may comment on all 4 posts for this month (July 2010).  I want to make someone a lucky winner on August 1st!

I can not think of a prettier color than today’s choice Bashful Blue. It brings a calm and soothing feel.  I think of breezy summer skies, babies, water and even icy winters with this blue.  It pairs so well with many other colors but I just love the Creative Combination on this Color Coach card!  The card below will be sent to the winner of July’s Color Coach Give-Away.

Card Size:  5″ x 5″

For this card I used Rose Red plain card stock for the card base.  Cut card stock at  5″ x 10″ (score and fold at 5″).  The mats are Wild Wasabi and Bashful Blue.  The sentiment image has been stamped onto Whisper White  with Rose Red Classic Ink.

After you stamp the fun Itty Bitty Bits images onto Whisper White, use the punches from the matching Shapes Pack of punches.

The new Jewels-Basic Pearl by Stampin’ Up! work perfectly on this design.  I used a larger size for the middle flower row and the smaller size for the top and bottom rows.  The jewels come with a mini dot of glue on the back of each individual pearl.  Pretty cool!  No need for your own adhesive.  Use tweezers to center each pearl, press to secure and your done!

Pencil Boxes

Hi Stampeders,

In just a few weeks it will be Back to School time !  These pencil boxes are very simple and a great way to experiment with the watercoloring technique.  The animals from the Stamp Set Long Fellows worked great for this project too.  I made two samples for today, one for a boy and one for a girl.  The box for a boy has the alligator image with Toy Story 3 pencils and the  box  for a girl has a cat image to match the Hello Kitty pencils.  This size box holds 4 pencils each.

This is how I made the boxes.  I hope you try them too!  They are very quick to make.

Step 1.  Cut the card stock 6-3/8″ x 3-5/8″.  I chose to stamp a simple image all over the card stock with a coordinating ink. (Boy’s box has Pacific Point ink with star image; Girl’s box has Melon  Mambo ink and heart image). Score down the 6-3/8″ length at the following measurements:  3/8″, 1-5/8″, 2″, 3-1/4″.  Turn the paper and line up the narrow side to the top of the cutter.  Score @ 3/8″.

Step 2.  Cut as shown below.  Snip up to the 3/8″ score line across all scores from left to right.  Completely remove the bottom right corner.

Step 3.  Apply adhesive to the inside of  the long outside edge and the bottom flap of the box and also onto the inside of the two small tabs.  Tuck tabs to the inside.  Assemble box as shown.

Step 4.  Stamp the image onto watercolor paper with Jet Black StazOn ink.

Step 5.   Touch the tip of the Aqua Painter (filled with water) to the tip of the Stampin’ Write Marker to get some ink color.  Lightly brush the color onto the image, building up intensity in the areas where there would be a shadow.  The watercolor paper has a wonderful texture and it looks so wonderful on this alligator.  It looks like he really has a bumpy texture!  I used Wild Wasabi for the body, Garden Green for the feet, Baja Breeze for the spine/eye lids and Daffodil Delight for the spots.  The cat has Tangerine Tango on the body.  I built up 4 layers of the same color for the shading.

Run the heat gun across your image once you have finished the coloring.  You can also let it air dry but you may get the colors bleeding outside the stamped line.  If you let the image aid dry it also has a beautiful look….that’s what watercolor paintings look like.

Step 6.  Cut the image to a 1-1/8″ x 3-3/4″ rectangle and adhere it onto a complimentary colored piece of card stock leaving a small reveal around all edges.

Step 7.  Add the finishing touches.  Adhere the image onto the box using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Tie a bit of Hemp Twine or Ribbon for an accent.  Add the pencils and you are done.  Kids will love having these in school on the 1st day!
