Frogs are the best!

Today I am posting a 12″ x 12″ layout for the NSD (National Scrapbooking Day) 2011 Challenge #3 posted on Life on the {Scrap} Beach.  I had a blast creating this layout about my grandson Elijah.  He just loves his frog boots!  He is on his third pair and it’s from wearing holes in the bottom not from growing LOL!

We were challenged to use the Color Scheme Designer for our color choices.  I chose this combo.

These work so well with my photos and perfect for little boys.

I also want to give kudos to the awesome site Pencil Lines.  They have the best sketches.  This layout uses Sketch #162 designed by Malin Dahlström.

For the title I painted Hauser Light Green acrylic paint on the word “frog”.  I wanted the word “boots” to resemble the rustic peeled paint look on the barn doors behind my grandson so I painted the letters with Dark Chocolate acrylic paint.  I let them dry and then painted a thin coat of white glue over all the brown paint.  I then immediately painted White Wash acrylic paint over the wet glue in one direction and let it air dry.  That’s how I got the crackle effect!  You can also use a crackle paint but I did not have any on hand for this project.  All acrylic paints were Americana brand.

I painted Glossy Accents over the dried FROG letters coating them heavily and let them dry for one hour.  I left the tiny bubbles ,that rose to the surface, because I thought it would compliment the frog and pond water idea :}

Don’t you just love these leaves?  I went to a local scrapbook convention last week and purchased the Tim Holtz Ideaology Kraft Glassine paper and the Spellbinders Shapeabilities Assorted Leaves dies.   They are super simple to make and I love how realistic they look.  Cut the leaves out and emboss them per the instructions.  Add ink on the edges and center area.  Scrunch them a bit and your done!  The paper is awesome to work with.

This is a closeup of the leaves glued onto the layout.  I used Early Espresso and Cherry cobbler Classic Ink from Stampin’ Up! on these leaves.  These would be beautiful in any color or with some Glimmer Mist or Perfect Pearls.

I matted the photos with a simple 1/8″ reveal in Whisper White from Stampin’ Up!

I hope you like this bright and cheery layout.  Please let me know if you like it!
