Dark and Dreary

I start to think about fall projects now that August is upon us .  There are so many options for cards, layouts, albums and altered items.  I can barely sleep with all the ideas spinning in my head!

Today’s project uses my old stand by stamp set Dark & Dreary by Stampin’ Up!

For the A2 card base I used the Nestabilities Labels Die in the second largest size.  The card stock is Lucky Limeade and I have also lightly inked around the edges with matching Lucky Limeade Classic Ink and my sponge dauber.  I really like how the soft edges compliment the eerie look of the stamped image.

To make the center image just stamp with Black StazOn ink.  I masked the center “31” circle image and then inked Lucky Limeade, Bright Blue and Elegant Eggplant in horizontal stripes, inking across the masked area.

Remove the circle mask and you have a nice rich finished image for the front of the card. I added a glossy outside edge around the center image for some interest. I  matted and mounted the image centering it onto the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  This color combo makes a cute scary look instead of a more macabre effect.

I kept the inside quite simple by adhering Lucky Limeade Designer Series Paper-Patterns to the inside card back.  I stamped my sentiment in Basic Black Classic Ink.

I hope you try this technique.  It’s fun and can be used with many color combinations and images!
